A local Awami League leader received bullet as unidentified miscreants opened fire on him at Paschim Latifpur village under the Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
Omar Faruk, 35, the vice-president of Chandraganj union unit Awami league, have been admitted to the district Sadar Hospital, said Nizam Uddin, union unit AL president.
Omar's uncle Ismail told the Dhaka Tribune: “The members of local criminal gang Jisan Bahini opened fire on Omar around 8am while he was taking tea at a local shop.”
“Locals rescued him in critical condition and admitted to the hospital.”
Chandraganj police station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir said: “We have information that the men of local criminal and also a Chhatra Dal leader Jusan launched the attack. The police is trying to the attackers.”
Following the incident, the ruling party members put barricade on the Lakshmipur-Dhaka Highway at 10am.
Nizam Uddin said: “Jisan Bahini launched the attack over previous enmity. We are demanding immediate arrest of the criminals.”
The barricade has not been removed till filing the report at 11:30am.
