Ershad: BNP to be vanished before next polls

Update : 05 Dec 2014, 09:22 PM

Claiming that the BNP is facing a severe leadership crisis, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday said Khaleda Zia’s party would go out of existence before the next general election.

“The general election will be held after four years or later, but Khaleda Zia’s BNP will have no existence before that election. Jatiya Party will be then the major opponent of Awami League to contest the polls,” he said.

The former dictator came up with the remarks while addressing a public meeting at Harati School ground in the city.

Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, expressed deep concern over what he said the sharp slide in law and order. “The country is in a bad shape. People across the country are not in peace.”

Accusing both Awami League and BNP of having failed to ensure peace and welfare of people, he said they want to get rid of the two parties. “Awami League and BNP are busy in killing, infighting and clashes. People want to see Jatiya Party in power for peace.”

Taken aback at the leak of question papers of primary examinations, Ershad said, “I never heard before that the question papers of primary exams got leaked.”

He also alleged that the government is not taking any effective step to check the malpractice.

The former dictator claimed that there are only misrule, terrorism, tender manipulation and politicisation in the country under the current rule.

He also said his party will be able to fulfil the people’s expectations if they come to power in the next general election. “We are working to secure 151 seats to form the next government.”
