Unidentified miscreants have attacked a body-carrying ambulance and looted valuables of the relatives of the demised person in Tongi's Bashpatti area.
Rajib, one of the victim of the mugging incident, said: “My brother Shahjahan Talukder died at a hospital in the capital on Thursday night. We hired an ambulance and left Dhaka for Gazipur in the night.”
“A gang of four/ five muggers intercepted the ambulance in Bashpatti area around 3am and looted cash money 10,000, gold ornaments, death certificate and three mobile phone sets.”
He alleged that the mugging incident occurred in presence of a team of patrol police deployed in the area.
“However, the policemen did not take any action against the criminals.”
The family members claimed that the police have close connection with the criminals as the law enforcers returned the death certificate immediately after they reached home.
While contacted, patrol team SI Abdul Mannan said: “We tried to capture the culprits immediately after the mugging incident. But, they managed to flee.”
“While escaping the muggers threw the death certificate on the street. Later, we returned it to the victims.”
