Malaysia to build low-cost flats in Dhaka

Update : 02 Dec 2014, 03:52 PM

Malaysia has shown keen interest in building low-cost flats under housing projects at Kamrangirchar in the capital to provide flats to the poor at an affordable cost.

Special Envoy of the Malaysian PM on Southeast Asian Affairs, Seri Samy Vellu, showed the interest as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested him for construction of such flats for low-income people of Bangladesh, reports BSS.

Hasina,  who is now in Kuala Lumpur on a three-day visit, made the request when the envoy made a courtesy call on her at her hotel suite Tuesday evening.

Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque said this while briefing reporters after the meeting.

Three issues – construction of housing for low-income people at Kamrangirchar in Dhaka, construction of a crude oil terminal at Single Mooring in Chittagong and import of rail coaches from Malaysia – were discussed during the meeting, the secretary said.

The Malaysian envoy expressed desire for construction of a crude oil handling terminal at Single Mooring in Chittagong Port area.

Sami Vellu also submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister for selling 400 railway coaches to Bangladesh.
