6 people rescued, 2 traffickers held in Rajshahi

Members of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have rescued six people, including a child, from Monigram union under Bagha upazila on Tuesday, while they were being trafficked to India.

The victims are Ariful Islam, 6, Sumon Ali, 18, Mithun, 16,  Sabuj, 18, Rabiul Islam Robi, 22,  and Toafazza, 18.

The BGB members also detained 2 human traffickers -- Ahmed, 22, son of Babu Ahmed, of Raotha in Charghat upzilla and an Indian national Rafikul Islam, 30,-- from the spot.

Sarowar Hossain, in-charge of Alaipur BGB camp said, acting on a tip-off, a team of the BGB conducted a drive, rescued the victims and detained two traffickers on Tuesday afternoon.

Quoting the detainees, the BGB official told the Dhaka Tribune that the human traffickers were sending the victims to India, alluring them of giving lucrative jobs.

Later, they were handed over to their guardians and the human traffickers were sent to the Bagha police station, he added.
