A Rajshahi court has placed five accused of Rajshahi University Professor AKM Shafirul Islam Lilon murder case on a fresh two-day remand each on Tuesday.
The court of Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sharmin Akhter passed the order after the police produced them before the court with 10-day remand plea.
The accused are Abdus Samad Pintu, 34, former vice-president of Chhatra Dal Rajshahi University unit, Ariful Islam Manik, 33, organising secretary of Katakhali Municipality unit of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, Md Sabuj Sheikh, 18, Sirajul Islam Kalu, 22 and Al Mamun, 31.
The five suspected killers were arrested on November 22 after RU registrar Professor Entajul Haque filed a murder case over the incident.
Later, the detainees along with another accused one Babu alias Tokai Babu, 21, were sent to jail on November 23.
They were placed on remand on November 25.
On November 15, armed assailants hacked Shafiul to death in the Chouddopai area in Rajshahi city.
After the murder, a militant group, Ansar al-Islam 2 claimed the responsibility in a facebook page.
Police so far arrested 11 Jamaat-e-Islami activists in connection with the murder.
