Four people including a minor boy have been killed in a train and separate road accidents in the port city of Chittagong.
The deceased were Babla, 48, Siraj, 50 and Tanvir, 8, while the identity of another deceased could not be known yet, police sources said.
At least 14 others were injured in the accidents that took place in Chittagong’s cantonment area, Anwara and Mirsarai upazila in the district on Tuesday.
Sergeant Mehedi Hasan of Jorarganj highway police outpost said a bus of Shahi Paribahan collided head-on with a bus of Choice Paribahan in Mithachara area of the upazila on Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 11am, leaving Babla dead on the spot and 12 others injured.
The injured were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), added Sergeant Mehedi.
The traffic movement of Dhaka-Chittagong highway was disrupted for half an hour due to the accident, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jakir Hossain of Bara Awlia highway police outpost.
In Anwara upazila, a grandfather and his grandchild were killed and two others injured when a bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Khandakar Md Azadul Islam of Anwara police station.
A Chittagong city-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying four collided face-to-face with a bus on PAB road at Chaturia-Chowmuhuny area of the upazila around 2pm, leaving Siraj and his grandchild Tanvir dead, said the SI.
The injured were sent to CMCH while police took the killer bus under the custody, said the SI adding a case was filed with Anwara police station in this regard.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Himangsu Das Rana of Government Railway Police (GRP) of Chittagong railway police outpost said a teenager aged about 14 years old was crushed under the train’s wheels at cantonment railway station in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to CMCH morgue for autopsy, said the OC adding an unnatural death case was lodged in this connection.
