War criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee has been given the duties of gardening at at Dhaka Central Jail-1 in Kashimpur of Gazipur.
However, he was passing his time in his cell due to illness.
Jailer Amzad Hossain said the jail authorities put the Jamaat leader on the task as he cannot walk properly because of backaches and cardiac disease.
"That's why no pressure was put on him despite his inability to finish the tasks properly," the jailor said.
Hailing from Pirojpur, Sayedee was handed down the death sentence by the International Crimes Tribunal 1 on February 28 last year on two counts of crimes against humanity including for the killing of Ibrahim Kutti on May 8, 1971.
Later in response to an appeal petition, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court gave Sayedee imprisonment until death for crimes against humanity.
