Santu Larma warns of non-cooperation movement

Update : 29 Nov 2014, 06:53 AM

Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS faction) has threatened to wage a non-cooperation movement from May 1, 2015, if the government fails to “take concrete steps to ensure the full implementation of the CHT Peace Accord 1997 within April 30, 2015.”

Santu Larma, the leader of the PCJSS, came up with the forewarning while addressing a press conference at a capital hotel on Saturday.

The press meet was organised, marking the 17th anniversary of the CHT peace accord.

While reading out the key note, he said: “We have decided to stage a non-cooperative movement against the government from May 1, 2015, if it fails to take concrete steps to ensure the full implementation of the CHT Peace Accord 1997 within April 30, 2015.”

Terming the government's claim that the peace accord is being executing as a sheer lie, he said: “The government claim over the success of implementing the deal is noting but a sheer lie. It is giving false and confusing statements on the issue.”

“We will wage tougher movement if the government does not take any effective measure in this regard. All attempts against the execution of the CHT peace accord will be prevented.”

Replying to query, the PCJSS leader said: “We will stage both violent and peaceful demonstrations during the non-cooperative movement. It depends on the situation.”

Among others, Praesidium member of Gono Forum Pankaj Bhattacharya spoke at the press conference.

According to a report, since the 1997 signing of the Chittagong Hill Tracts peace accord, 156 indigenous families have been evicted while their ancestral land in six Bandarban mouzas grabbed by Bangalee settlers, private rubber plantation owners and horticulturists.
