Bicycles distributed among girl students in Barisal

Bicycles were distributed among girl students in Barisal on Friday.

The bicycle were distributed from Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust Fund. The distribution ceremony was held after a workshop over the development of education at Barisal circuit house.

Dr Kamal Abdul Naser, senior secretary of public administration ministry as the chief guest of the programme, handed over 35-bicycles among the girl students. Md Gaus, divisional commissioner of Barisal, presided over the workshop.

Speakers at the programme said government would do every thing to develop standard of education and prevent corruptions in education related offices, institutions and procedures.

Construction worker commits suicide

A construction worker who took poison two days ago died at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Humayun Kabir, 30, son of Samru Miah of Hasanpur village of Chandnighat union of Sadar upazila. According to police, Humayun took poison on Wednesday night and family member immediately rushed him to Moulvibazar 250-bed hospital.

The cause of his taking poison could not be known immediately. On information, police has taken the body and sent it to the same hospital morgue for postmortem examination. Nasma Begum, assistant sub-inspector, and also the duty officer of Moulvibazar police station, said they were looking into the matter.

Old man burnt to death in N’ganj

A septuagenarian man was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at his house in Mazdair of Fotullah in Sadar upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Abed Ali, 70. His wife Rahima Begum, 62, also sustained severe burn injuries in the incident. She is now undergoing treatment at the DMCH burn unit.

Family members of the deceased said Rahima caught fire on her body while cooking on the gas stove around 5am on Thursday. The fire spread into the gas cylinder in the room and the entire house caught fire.

Abed Ali and Rahima Begum were both burnt severely. They were rescued and rushed to the DMCH burn unit where Abed Ali died around 9am.

Woman held with firearms in Faridpur

Police arrested a woman with a pistol two rounds of bullet and gun powder from Khabaspur area in Faridpur on Friday.

The arrested was identified as Shahida Begum.

Officer-in-Charge of Faridpur Kotwali police station conducted a drive at the house of one Kamal Hossain. But sensing the presence of police Kamal fled away. Later, police recovered the firearms which were kept in a showcase and arrested Shahida.
