Popy wants women to watch her next film

Update : 25 Nov 2014, 07:25 PM

Three-time National Award winner Dhallywood actor Popy will soon appear in an upcoming film titled “Char Akkhorer Bhalobasha.” Directed by Jakir Khan, the film is scheduled to hit the cinemas on Friday.

When the Dhaka Tribune caught up with the actor to talk about the film, she talked about wanting female audiences to watch it.

“The film is, of course, for everyone to watch, but the story is a little women-centric. We have focused on some sentimental aspects that women can especially relate to. It shows how a rural girl, when needing legal support, is forced to accept arbitration and falls victim to injustice, as opposed to a city girl who is in a better position to find her way to the law,” Popy told the Dhaka Tribune.

Talking about the film’s title, she said: “I am playing the female protagonist Bhabna, who comes from a rural background, with two male leads played by Ferdous and Nirob, another character who has quite a significant role in the story. It is a love triangle.”

Talking about her character, Popy said: “Bhabna is a simple and jovial girl who falls in love with a guy in her teens. But in a critical turn of events, she ends up marrying his brother. From then on she faces the harsh reality of life.”

Popy was last seen in the film “Garments Kanya” in 2012, which garnered much popularity. She is excited about her upcoming film as she believes it will have a social impact.

Asked about her sporadic presence on silver screen, she said: “Our film industry has reduced in the past five years. Budgets have been cut, which affects the quality. I prefer to choose a particular that is significant. I do not rush when quality of work is concerned.”
