Fourth Digital World on Feb 9-12

A 4-day information technology fair would be held in Dhaka during February 9 to 12 next year to showcase the innovations and demonstrate the country’s strength as well as opportunities here to the international communities.

The government of Bangladesh in collaboration with Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) will organise the fourth edition of the fair dubbed as “Digital World-2015” at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the event and Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Advisor Sajib Wazed Joy will be present as the special guest at the event.

The government is making efforts to bring in a number of ministers from the developing world at attend a ministerial conference to be organised during the event, organisers told a press conference at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) in the capital yesterday.

State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak appreciated the countries like Japan, South Korea, China and Malaysia in helping Bangladesh develop the sector and said the government is now keen to honour them through demonstrating the achievements in digital services here.

The event will be featured with the presentation of top celebrity icons, who contributed in developing the digital services.

Besides the IT display, the event will include programmes like B2B matchmaking sessions, seminars, workshops, IT career fair, soft expo, e-governance expo, mobile innovation expo, e-commerce and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) programmes and Women IT Forum, and Children Forum as a new attraction.

“We have a vision to create 10,000 jobs from BPO sector, which can be accelerated through the fair,” Palak said.

Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), Association of Mobile Telecom Operators Bangladesh (AMTOB), Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing (BACCO), Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF), Bangladesh Women in IT (BWIT) and CTO forum will assist the event.

Earlier, BCC and BASIS signed a MoU on November 9 for organising the event.
