PM reaches Kathmandu

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reached Kathmandu, Nepal, to attend the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit

She was given a red carpet reception on her arrival in Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon, reports BSS.

The two-day Summit will began at the City Hall (Rashtriya Sabha Griha), Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the prime minister and members of her entourage landed at Tribhuban International Airport around 4.05pm (Nepal time).

Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal Bamdev Gautam, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Mashfee Binte Shams received Hasina at the airport.

The prime minister was given a guard of honour by Nepal Army.

On the occasion, national anthems of both Bangladesh and Nepal were played.

After a warm reception at the airport, the Hasina in ceremonial motorcade was taken to Hotel Crown Plaza Kathmandu-Soaltee where she will be staying during her visit to Nepal.

Thousands of people attired in traditional Nepali costume and beating drums on the roadside welcomed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The roads and road islands were decorated with the national flags of the SAARC countries and portraits of SAARC leaders.

The prime minister will address the inaugural session of the 18th SAARC Summit along with other heads of state or government of the SAARC nations on Wednesday.
