Nipun’s Ekattorer Ma Janoni selected for US Film Fest

Update : 23 Nov 2014, 06:33 PM

Nipun’s “Ekattorer Ma Janoni” has been selected for the US Film Festival to be held on December 27. The film, in which Nipun plays the protagonist, tells the story of the Birongonas of the Liberation War.

Dhaka Tribune caught up with the actress and was asked whether she was planning to attend the festival, the two time National Award winner said:  “It depends on the circumstances. The film is scheduled for release on December 19 and I feel that I should be home when it comes out. But I still have the invitation and if the situation allows, then I will attend the festival.”

She said she had to appear for a screen test for the role, her first screen test ever.

About the role Nipun said: “I think my character in the film is undeniably challenging compared with my earlier work. I play women of two different ages in the film, a 6o year-old and a 24-year-old. Besides, portraying a character in the environment of 1971 was not stress-free.”

“When watching some clips from the film, I could not recognise myself. I think my acting calibre can be judged by watching the film,” she added.

Nipun, who is going to debut in a film about the Liberation War with “Ekattorer Ma Jononi,” said: “Sometimes people consider films like this art films and predict they will only run in 3 or 4 theatres. But I think this is not an art film and has the ability run in more than a hundred theatres.”

Currently the film is being colour corrected and sound mixed abroad. The film, which is supported by government grants, will hit theatres on December 19.

As its title suggests, the movie is about the glorious Liberation War of Bangladesh. The script is influenced by the novel “Jononi Shahoshini 1971,” written by Anisul Haque.

The film, directed by Shah Alam Kiron, features popular actors of the silver screen: Agun, Shakil Ahmed, MM Morshed and Chitrolekha Guho along with Nipun. Uttom gave the art direction and a theatre troupe also worked in the making of the film.
