At least one person has been killed and 20 others have been injured in a clash between two rival groups of the Awami League in Titas upazila of Comilla.
The deceased is Reazul Karim Sentu, 42, son of Jabbar Hossain, of Kalakandi village.
Titas police station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Hannan said: “There was a long-standing dispute between Kalakandi union Awami League President Bahar Nasir and former president Ibrahim Mia over establishing supremacy in the area. The supporters of both the leaders locked into the clash at Kalakandi Bazar around 11am on Friday over the previous enmity.”
“Sentu received severe injuries during the clash and died on the spot while 20 people, on both sides, sustained minor injuries. The injured were admitted to different local hospitals.”
The OC said additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward situation.
A case has been filed in this connection.
