Fakhrul: Hasina is repeating her father's fault

Update : 20 Nov 2014, 10:48 AM

Claiming that it was a major mistake for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to introducing Baksal in the country, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was making the same mistake.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the statement while addressing a discussion organised by the National Awami Party at the National Press Club to mark Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani's death anniversary.

The BNP spokesperson also alleged that the prime minister's ego pushed the country into the door of destruction.

“The government has been hatching conspiracy to reintroduce one party ruling system in the country. In the past, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman introduced Baksal, killing democracy in the country. That decision was a big mistake and now his daughter [Hasina] is also doing the same thing,” he said.

Criticising the Prime Minister's claim that people have full confidence upon the Awami League-led government, Fakhrul said, “Illegal prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina told the parliament that people are not responding to the opposition’s movement.

"310 people were killed, 56 were abducted centering the January 5 election. Even after that 5% of the people did not cast their votes. People's response to the election boycott proves that they do not have any support to the government.”

Fakhrul claimed that the January 5 election did not get acceptance locally and internationally but even after that the prime minister has been claiming that everyone gives legitimacy to the government.

Issuing a note of warning, the BNP leader said as the government has been repressing the opposition leaders and activists continuously, they do not have any other option except waging vigorous movement in the street demanding election under a non-partisan government.

Fakhrul alleged that the ruling party leaders are involved with gold smuggling.

“Everyday golds are being seized at the airport. Bangladesh Biman and civil aviation officials are involved with it. If a fair investigation takes place, it would be found that the ruling party men are involved with gold smuggling.”
