The US Senate has confirmed the nomination of Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat as the next US ambassador to Bangladesh.
The nomination was confirmed by voice vote on November 19, according to the US Senate.
She will be replacing Dan W Mozena, who was appointed to Bangladesh in November 2011.
Bernicat is currently serving as a deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Human Resources at the Department of State, a position she held since 2012.
Previously, she was the ambassador to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau from 2008 to 2011.
She served as the office director for India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bhutan in the Bureau of South Asian Affairs at the US Department of State during 2006-08.
Bernicat was the deputy political counsellor at the US embassy in New Delhi, India from 1992-95, and desk officer for Nepal and India in the Bureau of Near East and South Asian Affairs during 1988-90.
Bernicat, a master's holder on Foreign Service from Georgetown University, has received several Department of State honours including five senior Foreign Service performance awards and two superior honour awards.
