A youth has been beaten to death by locals suspecting him to be a thief at Choto Koibartakhali village under Rajapur upazila of the district.
The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, son of late Abdul Aziz of the village.
Monir's family members claimed the incident as preplanned killing.
Two persons were detained in this connection.
Rajapur police station Officer-in-Charge AZM Masuduzzaman said Monir was caught when he had gone to steal at one Habib Forazi's residence around 4:30am on Wednesday.
"Hearing the scream of the residents, locals rushed in and beat him severely leaving him critically injured," said the OC.
Monir was admitted to Rajapur Health Complex where he died while undergoing treatment.
