98 sued over rescue of 625 migrants

Bangladesh Navy has filed two cases against 98 persons in connection with the rescue of 625 people from a fishing trawler off the St Martin’s Island.

Lt Commander Mahbubur Rahman filed the cases with Potenga police station on Wednesday morning.

Potenga police station Officer-in-Charge Md Shahabuddin told the Dhaka Tribune that one case was filed against 82 persons under the foreign act; and another was filed accusing 16 under the human trafficking act.

Navy personnel detained 625 people while they were travelling to Malaysia illegally on Monday afternoon.
