President Abdul Hamid has called for exemplary punishment to the killers of the Rajshahi University Professor AKM Shafiul Islam.
Hamid made the call while addressing the fourth convocation of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on Tuesday.
Hamid said: "None expects killing of a scholar of the higher education institute."
“With the whole nation, I am also deeply shocked and saddened at the killing and I convey my deepest condolence to the family of the deceased and the Rajshahi University family.”
On Saturday, armed assailants hacked Shafiul to death in the Chouddopai area in Rajshahi city.
After the murder, a militant group, Ansar al-Islam 2 claimed the responsibility in a facebook page.
Police so far arrested 11 Jamaat-e-Islami activists in connection with the murder.
