15 injured in clash over land dispute

At least 15 people, including seven policemen, were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land dispute at Baranol village under Sreepur upazila in Gazipur yesterday.

The injured police officials are:  assistant sub-inspector Somon, 26, constables Nurul Amin, 56, Abdus Sattar, 57, Abdul Mannan, 50, Abdul Kader, 52, Abdul Baten, 55 and Mohammed Safin, 26.

Safin was admitted to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, while others took treatment at  a local clinic.

Locals and police said there was a long standing dipute between  one Abdul Mannan  and Jashim Uddin over  ownership of a piece of land at the village.

The clash ensued when  some people led by Jashim Uddin went to erect a structure on the land and some people led by Jashim tried to prevent the fomer group, said Sreepur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohsin-Ul-Kadir.

Some people attacked the law enforcers by throwing  brick chips when they were trying to bring the situation under control, he said.
