Mother, son killed in road accidents

Two died on spot, seven sustained injuries when a bus losing control  ploughed onto a footpath in capital’s Uttara yesterday morning.

The dead are Ruma, 30, a resident of Gazipur, and her son Ali Hossain, 2.

After hitting a bus of Balaka Paribahan on the street, the bus of route number 3 ploughed onto the crowded pavement at a great speed where the mother-son duo were begging. They died on spot while seven others received injuries who are currently under treatment at different local hospitals, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Uttara (west) police station.

Police seized the bus and held the driver Billal Hossain, 22. In another accident, three including two journalists of private satellite TV channel Ekushey Television sustained injuries in capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area yesterday.

The victims are Ekushey Television’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar correspondent Hakim Morol, videographer Abdur Razzak and Delwar, the chauffeur.

The accident occurred around 3am when a truck hit the car with the channel’s sticker on it, carrying them to their office in Karwan Bazar.
