Rich tribute paid to Zillur Rahman Siddiqui

People from all walks of life have paid a rich tribute to eminent academic Zillur Rahman Siddiqui at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.

The body of Zillur Rahman was kept at the Shaheed Minar from 11am to 12:30pm, where thousands gathered to pay their tributes to him.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhaka University's central mosque after Johr prayers. Later, his body was taken to Azad mosque at Gulshan where the second janaza was held.

He will be buried at Banani Graveyard after the second janaza.

The noted academic died on Wednesday early hours.

Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui served as an advisor to the caretaker government under justice Shabuddin Ahmed in 1990-91, being in charge of Ministry of Education.

He authored many books in Bangla and English and was the Editor of Bangla Academy English-Bengali Dictionary.

He was honored with Alaol Shahitya Purashkar in 1977, Bangla Academy Award in 1979, Alokto Shahitya Purashkar in 1998 and Swadhinata Purashkar in 2010.
