A smuggler has been killed and two police members have sustained injuries when a gang of smugglers attacked a team of Detective Branch of Police in Shikdi Border area of Satkhira on Tuesday night.
The deceased is Manir Hossain, 27, son of Rajab Ali, of Kaliani Chhoighoria village while the injured are DB Assistant Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam and Constable Abdur Rahim. Abdur Rahim has been admitted at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Satkhira additional superintendent of police Mir Modasser Hossain said: “The gang launched attack on the DB members around 9pm, while the law enforcers were conducting drives against the local smugglers.”
“The police members seized some bottles of Phensedyl during the drive. But the criminals attacked on them, hack Abdur Rahim and beat Aminul up before they recovered more smuggled goods. The locals rescued and admitted at Satkhira General Hospital from where Abdur Rahim was shifted to Khulna."
“The DB members fired some bullets in self-defence, leaving Manir injured. Later, he was taken to Satkhira Sadar hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead,” he added.
