Transport strike postponed in Sylhet

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ and Workers’ Federation, has postponed indefinite strike in four districts of Sylhet division after getting an assurance from the government that it would meet their demands.

Md Shahidul Islam, deputy commissioner of Sylhet district endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

The postponement decision came at a meeting between deputy commissioners and police officials of the 4-district, and Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ and Workers’ Federation leaders.

The meeting was held at office of Sylhet divisional commissioner around 5:30pm.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ and Workers’ Federation called the strike aiming to press home their  demands, including decreasing corruption in BRTA office; setting up grill at CNG-run auto-rickshaws; rebuilding rundown of Sylhet-Tamabil road and mitigation transport related cases in Sylhet instead of Sayestaganj, Habiganj.
