Noted Bengali singer Kabir Suman has been issued a legal notice with warning that he might face a 200 crore rupee defamation suit.
Prithiraj Dutta, from Hooghly district of West Bengal, India, issued the notice on November 4.
Suman posted a scanned copy of the legal notice on his Facebook page.
The notice was served for his [Suman] "criminal offense by making illegal and hampering comments against Hindus community".
Noting that Suman made the comments at a conference at Presidency College (in Kolkata) attended by students and other intellectuals on November 3, the legal notice said: “[You] have made a statement that RSS and Hindus groups are terrorist and also you have welcomed the illegal infiltration in West Bengal and Muslim terrorists are not terrorist at all.”
Granting Suman 7 days to respond, the notice adds: “My client is determined to file a defamation suit against you an amount of Rs200 crores… until or unless you unconditionally apologise.”
