Hizb-ut Tahrir Ctg coordinator ex-Feni judge surrenders

The banned Islamic outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir Chittagong divisional coordinator also former judicial magistrate and assistant judge of Feni district, Sheikh Omar Sharif has surrendered before a Chittagong court on Sunday.

The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jannatul Ferdaus sent him to jail after the surrender in the afternoon.

During surrender, Sharif claimed himself as the coordinator of Hizb-ut Tahrir of Chittagong divisional unit.

The court sent the former judge to behind the bars rejecting his bail plea and asked to present the Hizb-ut leader’s passport before the court on next hearing date, advocate Ashok Kumar Dash, prosecutor of the court told the Dhaka Tribune.

Police seized the anti-state leaflets, posters and some other documents from a flat at the sixth floor of one Abul Kashem at Jakir Hossain Society’s Road Number 10 of Dakshin Khulshi in Chittagong city.

Omar Sharif was a resident of the flat and served as assistant judge in Feni, Ashok said.

Police also seized few copies of “Etai Amar Path” written by the judge which was also a guideline of the banned outfit.

According to police, Omar Sharif is one of the top organisers of the banned outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir in the port city of Chittagong.
