A road transport committee in Habiganj district has called for indefinite strike in Sylhet division from Tuesday demanding realisation of their seven-point demand.
Habiganj district road transport owner-labour combined committee announced the programme in a press conference held at the district press club on Sunday afternoon.
The demands include – reducing the registration number of all sort of human haulers, minimising domination of the police, punishment of the police who fired bullets on Sylhet’s transports’ owners and labours, recruiting the suspended workers in the Lafarge Surma Factory, including bus-minibus owners in regional committee etc.
Member secretary, Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury in his written statement said: “On October 27, we gave an ultimatum to the divisional commissioner of Sylhet to fulfill our demands by November 5.”
As the administration did nothing, the committee announced the indefinite strike programme from 6am on Tuesday, he added.
He said the transport unions and organisations of every district under Sylhet division will continue the programme until their demands are met.
Habiganj road transport committee president Fazlur Rahman Chowdhury, road transport labour union general secretary Sajib Ali and Agradut Paribahan owner Fazlur Rahman Lebu were, among others, present in the conference.
