Miscreants have attacked five temples at Lalpur village under Ashuganj upazila of the district early Saturday.
Tension was prevailing among the Hindu communities in the area following the attack.
Sub-Inspector Gias Uddin of Ashuganj police station said one Debasis Roy allegedly posted defamatory comments against the Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) on Facebook on November 5.
"A group of people attacked the house of Debasis on that night. Later, police arrested Debasis after a case was filed against him with Ashuganj police station," he added.
Resident of the area Suvash Chowdhury said a group of people brought out a procession with sticks on Friday night protesting the Facebook post.
"Later, miscreants attacked five temples at Lalpur village around 12:30am on Saturday," he said.
Md Zahidul Islam, additional superintendent of police, Brahmanbaria, said three persons were detained in connection with the attack on the temples.
