Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday sought cooperation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to set up world-standard livestock inspection laboratories across the country.
The minister came up with the request at a meeting with UNIDO Director General Li Yong held on the sidelines of a two-day international conference on investment in Vienna, the capital city of Austria, said a handout.
UNIDO organised the second forum, titled ‘Partnerships to scale up investment for inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID),’ that concluded yesterday.
Various aspects of financial and technical assistance of UNIDO to the industrial sector of Bangladesh came up for the discussions at the bilateral meeting.
The Industries Minister said Bangladesh was prioritising industrialisation for boosting its economic growth, and the Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) programme taken by the UNIDO is a time-befitting initiative for Bangladesh.
Praising Bangladesh for improving the industrial sector of Bangladesh, the UNIDO Director General said Bangladesh had achieved a tremendous progress in improving the quality of products and diversification of products in recent times.
