Two persons including a photojournalist were injured in a crude bomb blast in a procession of Gonojagoron Moncho in Chittagong city’s Cinema Palace area yesterday.
The Moncho leaders and activists brought out the procession hailing the death sentence awarded to war criminal and Jamaat leader Mir Kashem.
The injured were rickshaw puller Md Rafiq, 45, and Aminul Islam Munna, photojournalist of the Daily Azadi, a local daily in Chittagong.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge AKM Mohiuddin Selim told the Dhaka Tribune that a crude bomb was blasted when the Moncho procession was crossing Cinema Palace area around 1:45pm leaving the duo injured.
Of them, Rafiq was sent to Chittagong General Hospital while Munna received minor injuries in the bomb blast, said the OC.
The on-duty physician Dr Morshed Ali at emergency ward of Chittagong General Hospital said Rafiq was given primary treatment.
The OC said police were looking into the matter and trying to arrest the persons involved in the blast.
Gonojagoron Moncho Co-ordinator Sharif Chouhan said the crude bomb was thrown targeting their procession to foil the spirit of the Liberation War.
Earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal 2 awarded death penalty to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali for his crimes against humanity and other offenses committed in Chittagong during the 1971 Liberation War.
