Gonojagoron Moncho, the pro-liberation platform, has welcomed the verdict of International War Crimes tribunal that handed down death penalty to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali.
Spokesperson of a Moncho faction Imran H Sarkar expressed his satisfaction at a rally in the capital’s Shahbagh on Sunday afternoon, immediately after the verdict was pronounced.
Imran said: “We welcome the verdict. We thank government and the tribunal for it.”
“Now we want quick execution of the verdict as the execution of these verdicts will establish rule of law in the country.”
He also urged the government to take necessary step to tackle Jamaat’s hartal.
The activists of Gonojagoron Moncho also brought out joyous rally at Shahbagh in the capital.
Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists also brought out procession at Dhaka University campus after the verdict was pronounced.
The International Crimes Tribunal 2 awarded death penalty to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali for his alleged crimes against humanity and other offences committed in Chittagong during the 1971 Liberation War.
The tribunal 2 has handed down death penalty to war criminal Mir Kashem on the charges 11 and 12 for killing five people, including one Jasimuddin, after abduction.
