Section 144 was imposed at Shamsernagar Bazar in Kamalganj upozila under Moulvibazar district yesterday as two groups of Awami League called meetings at the same place and time.
Md Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kamalganj police station said local Awami League loyal to former Chief Whip Md Abdus Shahid and Chhatra League loyal to Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali called meetings at the bazar around 3pm on the occasion of Jail Killing Day.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate of Kamalganj Shahid Mohammed Saidul Haque said the section 144 had been imposed from 11am on Saturday to 9am on Sunday to avoid untoward situation.
