Abstract Serenity on display

Update : 31 Oct 2014, 08:37 PM

A solo painting exhibition by Syed Hasan Mahmud titled “Abstract Serenity” is taking place at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. The exhibit, showcasing 69 artworks, will run until November 15.

The theme of the exhibition focuses on nature’s elements, such as bushes and deep forest, which are seemingly bland. It is also the artist’s silent attempt to promote nature’s preservation. In the artworks, the lines seem to be dripping, which happens to the artist’s signature style.

Hasan loves to experiment with colours and materials, and in the paintings at the exhibition, he has used a unique technique by engraving canvas with a spatula. A painter with strong imagination, Hasan has worked mostly with acrylics, and on different shapes and colours.

Born in 1958 in Dhaka, Hasan completed his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University in 1981. This is his fourth solo painting exhibition after 18 years. He also participated in many group exhibitions around the world and was honoured with awards such as Honourable Mention Award and Second Tone National Miniature Art Competition Award.
