Frustration grips more than 10,000 people as they have not yet got any electricity meter installed, let alone power connection, even though they paid meter charges six months ago in Gazipur.
Local Syed Mashiur Rahman, who lives at Rajbari area in the district town, said: I deposited services charges after Palli Bidyut Samity’s inspection and wiring five months ago, but have not yet got any meter, let alone power connection.”
Another local Abul Kashem, who lives at Ward No 15 in Gazipur City Corporation expressed similar views and said: “I paid all charges for three meters around six months ago, but have not got any meter.”
Bazlur Rashid, who lives at Bhogra village, shared different experiences with the rural electrification board office.
“I had a power meter damaged by a storm once, which I informed the Palli Bidyut office, but its staffs demanded Tk30,000 as fines. However, I finally managed to settle it at Tk10,000.”
He rued that he might not have to count such an amount of money in losses had he fixed the meter with an electrician rather than go to inform the Palli Bidyut Samity office about its damage.’
When Palli Bidyut Samity’s Deouty General Manager Noor Mohammad at its Chhayabithi Office was asked about this all, he said they would give power connections to the people soon after meters were imported from China.
He said it would not take more than one month to import the meters from China.
Palli Bidyut Samity General Manager Engineer Jahirul Islam said it would take some time to bring the meters from China after completing all formal procedures.
