Update : 31 Oct 2014, 02:40 PM

Taking consideration to reduce traffic jam, the government is taking initiatives to allow holding political programmes in the capital only on public holidays.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the statement while addressing at a rally in the capital on Friday.

“Rallies or processions of any organisation will have to be organised only on public holidays,” he said.

Obaidul said political programmes would be allowed to be held at particular places of Dhaka.

“Government will not permit any rally or procession anywhere else of the capital,” the minister said.

He also informed that the government would divide Suhrawardy Udyan into four for holing rallies.

While talking to the Dhaka Tribune about the matter, Obaidul Quader said they already had thought to allow holding rallies at particular places and on particular days.

“We have to stop holding rallies on working days for reducing traffic jam in the capital,” he said.

The minister urged all organisations to organise their programme on public holidays.
