The police have arrested two persons for allegedly attacking the house of Bangladesh Cricket Board director Sheikh Sohel, also the son of prime minister’s cousin.
The arrestees are Sheikh Shahidul Islam Litu and Md Shahjahan Kabir Mithu.
Sonadanga Model police station Officer-in-Charge Maruf Ahmed said: “The police have arrested Litu along with a pistol and two rounds of bullets from Chhoto Khalpar area of the city early Friday while Mithu was held on Thursday night.”
Four police members, who were deployed at the house during the attack, have been suspended for negligence of duty.
They are Mijanur Rahman, Monirul Islam, Khairul and Noor Hossain.
Assistant Police Commissioner of Sonadanga Zone Mollah Azad Hossain said: “We have taken tight security measures to ensure the safety of Sheikh Sohel and his family members. Four police members have been deployed at his house after the attack. Besides, a patrol team of police led by an SI will always monitor the situation.”
Miscreants have attacked the house of Bangladesh Cricket Board director Sheikh Sohel, also the son of prime minister’s cousin, at Sher-e-Bangla road in Khulna town.
Miscreants fired five rounds of bullets targeting his house around 11:15pm on Wednesday.
Khulna Juba League Joint Convener Hafez Muhammad Shahim said: “Five masked men riding on a motorbike fired bullets aiming at Sohel’s car. One bullet hit the meeting room on the ground floor of the house.”
“I left my car near Royalmor area and sent it home. This kind of incident did not happen earlier,” said Sheikh Sohel.
Later, Sohel's cousin Tanveer Hasem filed a case against four unnamed persons on Thursday night.
