Update : 30 Oct 2014, 09:40 PM

The last issue of popular Bangla weekly magazine Shaptahik 2000 is set to reach readers today as the publisher has decided to cease its publication after 17 years for facing losses.

Its Editor Moinul Ahsan Saber told the Dhaka Tribune that the decision to close the publication had come from the publisher, Mahfuz Anam, who is also editor of The Daily Star.

“The last issue of the magazine will be available in the market on Friday [today],” he said.

Monjur Shams, the assistant editor, said: “The publisher told us that the decision was taken in the face of losses.”

The magazine started its journey in 1998 with late veteran journalist Shahadat Chowdhury as its founding editor.

Since its inception, the magazine rose to popularity through its authentic, sincere and in-depth coverage of contents.
