The police, in a drive, have detained Jamaat-e-Islami's Rajshahi unit Ameer Ataur Rahman, from Tekhadia area of the district.
The law enforcers detained Ataur in special special drive early Thursday.
Motihar police station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain said: “Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of one Masum and arrested Ataur around 2am.”
Police also detained four activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Rajshahi town while picketing the area.
The OC said: “The other Shibir activists were arrested from Hadirmor area.”
He said additional police forces have been deployed in different important points of the district to avert further untoward situation.
However, no unpleasant incident has been reported yet. The vehicular movement is normal in the area.
On Wednesday, the International Crimes Tribunal awarded death sentence to Jamaat Chief Matiur Rahman Nizami for committing crimes against humanity in the Liberation War in 1971.
Following the verdict, Jamaat called countrywide hartals for Thursday (today), Sunday and Monday protesting the death sentence of its chief.
