One Liberia returnee cleared as Ebola risk free

Update : 28 Oct 2014, 10:05 PM

Directorate General of Health Services  issued a certificate to declare a man, who returned from Liberia about a month ago, free from the risk of Ebola infection.

The man was one of the six people who had returned from the Ebola-hit country and passed through Shahjalal International Airport without screening.

DGHS sources said he was issued a certificate stating that he can live a normal life in the society. The man had to face a lot of trouble to stay with his family at Khulna and he was being avoided by his relatives and friends.

Professor Dr Be-Nazir Ahmed, director of the Communicable Diseases Control (CDC) and a member secretary of the national Ebola Monitoring Committee, confirmed this, and said the suspected man had already completed the 21-day observation period a couple of days ago and developed no symptoms of Ebola virus infection by this time.

Earlier, five others had already completed their 21day observation period, but none of them were given such a certificate, he added.

According to DGHS sources a total of 265 Bangladeshis had returned from Ebola affected countries.
