SC lawyer fined Tk10,000 for distorting info

Update : 27 Oct 2014, 07:25 PM

The High Court yesterday fined Tk10,000 to Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond for distorting its order on taking steps to prevent Ebola virus spread in the country.

The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Zahangir Hossain passed the order yesterday after hearing arguments from Akond.

Appearing before the bench yesterday, Akond on October 20 claimed that the court asked the government to monitor all incoming passengers at all international airports and border areas with the help of armed force to detect Ebola virus after hearing of a writ filed by him.

However, on that day, the High Court actually ordered to take a step for screening of air passengers coming from Ebola-affected African countries only.

At the same time, Akond gave distorted information to the media saying the court had directed the government to provide humanitarian aid to United Nation’s health emergency fund and the Ebola affected countries.

The court summoned Akond at 10:30am on October, 22 before the court but Akond did not appear. On that day the court summoned him again to appear before the court yesterday.

After the hearing court fined him 10 thousand taka.

During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman were present at the court.
