A policeman in Brahmanbaria has spawned controversy after he said “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu” at a meeting.
Akul Chandra Biswas, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar police station, was addressing a meeting of the local development coordination committee at the sadar upazila auditorium yesterday when he chanted the slogan.
The attendees, including government officials, in the room responded with a grin. Brahmanbaria Sadar’s Upazila Nirbahi Officer Dr Ashraful Alam presided over the crucial meeting of the upazila administration. Local MP RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury was the chief guest at the meeting, which was also attended by upazila officials and union chairmen.
A number of attendees said the UNO had invited Akul to talk about the overall situation and the policeman concluded his speech with the slogan.
After the meeting, Akul said he had uttered the slogan but urged this correspondent not to quote this part of his speech.
