Update : 22 Oct 2014, 06:53 PM

Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said drivers were responsible for the tragic road accident which took place at Baraigram village in Natore.

The minister said a three-member probe committee had been formed to find out the reason behind the road accident in which 36 people have been killed.

“Although the probe committee is yet to submit its report, we came to know from local sources that the road accident took place because of reckless driving.”

The minister made the remark while visiting an under-construction road in Mouchak area in Gazipur city. The minister visited the project site while returning from Natore yesterday.

The minister said everybody should be more careful and obey traffic rules to stop fatal road accidents which are a common phenomenon in the country.

He said it was impossible to stop road accidents without creating awareness among the people, alongside their eagerness to follow the traffic rules.

Road accidents have reduced to a great extent because of government’s initiative. The government has identified 144 accident-prone spots and started a Tk165 crore project to curb road accidents.
