Report: Overtaking caused the fatal collision in Natore

The fatal road accident in Natore, in which 34 people have been killed so far, occurred due to attempts of overtaking by the drivers of both buses, said the probe report.

The three-member probe committee led by Additional District Magistrate Khandakar Mohammad Ali, submitted the report on the Natore bus collision to the Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman on Wednesday night.

The seven-page probe report also stated that the condition of both the buses were unfit. They also did not have any certificate and route permit to ply their vehicles on the highways.

The report also consists 17 recommendations which were suggested “in a bid to control such fatal road accidents.”

Masiur Rahman said the three-member probe body submitted the report at 9pm on Wednesday.

The two other members of the committee Bangladesh Road Transport Authority(BRTA) Natore unit Assistant Director Shafiquzzaman and Assistant Superintendent of police (Baraigram circle) Mahfuzzaman were also present during the submission of the report.

The DC said: “The report will soon be sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.”

Earlier, at least 34 people were died, and many more injured, in the fatal road accident at Rezur Crossing of Razapur area in Baraigram upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

A three-member probe committee was formed on that night to look into the fatal road accident.
