A mobile court has sealed off two illegal blood banks also arrested two people allegedly involved in illegal blood trading on Wednesday. Mollik Ahsan Uddin Sami, assistant commissioner of the detective branch (DB) of Police endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
The blood banks are, Trust blood bank located at Kajol Shah area adjacent to Osmani Medical College Hospital and Red blood bank at Rekabi bazar area in the city, were sealed off by executive Magistrate Masiur Rahman, the DB official said.
Nirmolendu Chowdhury, inspector of DB police Said: “Masuk Ahmed, 32, was arrested from his residence at Bagbari Nursing Tila area in the city from where we recovered four bags of blood from his fridge.”
He said Masuk is an attendance of a physicians and was operating illegal blood business from his residence.
Police also arrested another trader, Shaheed Ahmed, 30, from Kajol Shah area in the city, he added.
The mobile court found the blood banks conducting its operations without performing five compulsory tests for AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis and Malaria.
