The police, in separate drives, detained three people with 2,500 pieces of yaba tablets from Shah Amanat Third Karnaphuli Bridge area in Chittagong city.
The detainees are Rashedul Islam Rashed, 28, of Chittagong, Saddam Hossain, 25, and Abul Hossain, 18, of Comilla.
Bakalia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Moshin said: “Acting on a tip off, police raided a passenger bus and recovered 500 pieces of yaba tablets form Rashed's possession at around 2:30am while the bus was entering the port city.”
“Later, police recovered 2,000 yaba tablets from a salt-laden truck and detained Saddam and Abul at around 8:30am,” he said.
The OC said two separate cases have been filed in this connection.
According to Department of Narcotic Control, around 37 yaba factories are at Mongdu in Myanmar which is close to Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district while about 90% of smuggled yaba tablets are entering into the country by Naf River and are being distributed across the country through Chittagong city.

Admitting the Yaba smuggling increase through the port city, CMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Banaz Kumar Majumder told Dhaka Tribune they have tightened their detective works to stop the smuggling.
“We also increase our watch at the entrance points of the city especially Shah Amanat Bridge area by which point vehicles enter into the city from Cox’s Bazar.”
Smugglers continuously use new techniques to peddle their illegal drug items to elsewhere, he also said.
