National Professor and noted historian Salahuddin Ahmed has been laid to rest at Banani graveyard in the capital with state honour on Sunday evening.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Dhaka University's central mosque after Asar prayers, reports BSS.
He was buried around 6pm at his father's grave with state honour, Kader Newaz Khan, a nephew of the late professor said.
Earlier, the body of the professor was taken to Central Shaheed Minar where people of all walks of life paid their last tributes to him.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the death of the eminent historian.
Moreover, eminent personalities including the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, ministers, Dhaka University vice-chancellor, vice-chancellor of the National University and different socio-cultural organisations have expressed deep shock at the death of national professor Salahuddin Ahmed.
Dr Salahuddin died of old age ailments at 6:30am on Sunday at his Banani residence. He was 92.
He left behind three sisters, two brothers and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Dr Salahuddin Ahmed was awarded with Ekushey Padak and Bangladesh Sadhinota Padak (Independence Day Award).
Born in 1922 in Faridpur, Salahuddin Ahmed started his teaching career in 1948 as a lecturer at Jagannath College. Later, he joined at Rajshahi University.
He was also Professor of History at Jahangirnagar University and Dhaka University.
