AL leader's body exhumed for autopsy

Body of an Awami League leader in Jointopur upazila of Sylhet has been exhumed on Saturday, after one month of his suspected death.

Police exhumed the body of Mokhlesur Rahman Dowla, former general secretary of upazila Awami League, from grave in presence of executive magistrate and UNO Khaledur Rahman around 9:30am.

UNO Khaledur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that the body was sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

On September 11, Mokhlesur Rahman Dowla's body was recovered from Morgahati area of the district.

The incident was reported as a road accident. Later, his family alleged that it was a planned murder.

Mokhlesur's son Monjur Elahi Samrat filed a case with Jointopur police station on September 25.

Police have already arrested five persons in this connection.

A district court granted police petition seeking order for exhuming the body. The body was exhumed on Saturday as per the court order.
