JS body for giving priority to women entrepreneurs in allocating BSCIC plots

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts yesterday recommended giving priority to female entrepreneurs while allocating plots in BSCIC industrial estates.

The recommendation was made at the 8th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, presided over by the committee chairman Shawkat Ali, reports BSS.

Committee members M Abdul Quddus, M Habibur Rahman, Abdur Rouf and Advocate Navana Aktar attended the meeting, said an official release.

The meeting discussed in detail the activities of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).

The meeting was informed that 74 BSCIC industrial estates have 10,338 plots, on which 4,104 industrial units are in operation.

The committee recommended expediting the activities of new projects to make Chhatak Cement Company Limited profitable.

It suggested relocating Hazaribagh tanneries within the stipulated time to prevent pollution of the Buriganga river.

Industries secretary, BSCIC chairman and senior officials were present at the meeting.
