Member of the Privatisation Commission Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, who was the prime accused in the Padma bridge graft case, has been appointed as industries secretary.
He would replace Mohammad Moyeen Uddin Abdullah who was transferred to the Housing and Public Works Ministry as its secretary.
The Public Administration Ministry yesterday issued a gazette notification to this effect. The transfer order would take effect from October 26.
Mosharraf had recently been cleared of graft charges. The Anti-Corruption Commission gave him clean chit along with other accused as the watchdog found no evidence of corruption against them after investigation.
Earlier, Bhuiyan was made officer on special duty and suspended by the Public Administration Ministry when the allegation of his involvement with the scam was raised.
The police arrested him in connection with a case filed by the ACC against him. He also spent about two months in jail. Later, he was released on bail granted by the higher court.
However, Moyeen Uddin Abdullah would take office on October 26 as Housing and Public Works Secretary Golam Rabbani would go on retirement on October 25.
At the same time, Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority’s Executive Chairman Fakhrul Islam was posted to the Privatisation Commission as its member.
Director General of Prime Minister’s Office Paban Chowdhury, an additional secretary, was transferred to Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority as its executive chairman with the status of acting secretary.
